Michael was raised in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina where he developed a love for the arts at a young age.  He won entry to the Governor’s School of North Carolina in theater arts before receiving scholarships to attend the North Carolina School of the Arts, School of Filmmaking, from which he graduated top of his class.  During his collegiate summers, he augmented his education by working on local film productions, studying abroad in France with Rutgers University, and interning in VisualFX for Boyington Studios in L.A. (ED WOOD, BULLETPROOF).

After moving to Hollywood, Patwin found work as an assistant on NBC’s “Profiler” before landing a job as the creative assistant to writer/director/producer Pen Densham (BACKDRAFT, ROBIN HOOD: PRINCE OF THIEVES).  While at MGM Studios, Michael worked on CBS show “The Magnificent Seven” and TNT’s “Houdini”.

Patwin soon-after sold his first screenplay HOMETOWN LEGEND (starring Lacey Chabert & Terri O’Quinn from “Lost”), distributed by Warner Bros. and often seen on ABC’s Family Channel.  Michael went on to sell four feature scripts and develop projects with Sony Pictures, Warner Bros., Mirimax and Kinowelt USA.  While writing, Michael also developed and ran a syndicated home show.

Currently, Michael is in pre-production to direct the motion picture HEREAFTER, an original script he wrote starring David Strathairn.  Michael also volunteers as a 3rd Grade teacher and works with various community organizations such as The Dream Center (the largest organization for homeless in L.A.).
